What is SugarRisk?
SugarRisk is an prediabetes risk calculator and metabolic health dashboard. It is built to help adults understand how common risk factors interact – not to replace lab tests or medical care.
Why this tool exists
Many people only discover prediabetes or type 2 diabetes when blood sugar is already high. At the same time, online information can be confusing, extreme or focused on quick fixes.
SugarRisk was created to offer a calm, structured way to look at multiple risk factors in one place: age, body size, waist circumference, activity level, blood pressure, family history and – if you have them – basic lab values.
How SugarRisk should be used
- As a starting point for a conversation with your doctor or nurse.
- As a way to understand how lifestyle, weight and family history influence risk.
- As a gentle reminder to keep up with routine blood work and check-ups.
The SugarRisk Index is a risk estimate built from established screening factors used in widely known diabetes risk tools and public clinical thresholds (for example: age, BMI, waist circumference, blood pressure, family history, and optional A1C / fasting glucose). It is not a medical diagnosis and should be used to support screening decisions and discussions with a licensed healthcare professional.
What SugarRisk is not
- It does not replace blood tests ordered and interpreted by your healthcare team.
- It does not tell you that you have or do not have diabetes or prediabetes.
- It does not provide personalised medical advice, prescriptions or emergency guidance.
Scientific Basis & Methodology
The SugarRisk algorithm is a metabolic risk estimation model based on established clinical risk factors for type 2 diabetes. The scoring logic is informed by well-known screening tools (e.g., FINDRISC) and public clinical thresholds for A1C and fasting glucose (e.g., CDC resources).
- The FINDRISC Study (PubMed) : We draw on the risk-factor structure and commonly used cut-offs (age, BMI, waist) described in FINDRISC-related research.
- CDC Diabetes Resources : Our logic follows the clinical thresholds for A1C and Fasting Glucose established by major health organizations including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
- Modern Metabolic Research: Our "TOFI" (Thin Outside, Fat Inside) logic accounts for visceral adiposity risk even in individuals with a normal BMI, providing a more comprehensive risk profile.
*Note: This tool provides a risk estimate, not a medical diagnosis. High scores should be discussed with a licensed healthcare provider.
